348. Train Good Habits

Obedience is doing what you’re told to do as soon as you are told to do it, with a happy heart.

Counting to three, or any other number, trains your child to disobey for as long as they can. By definition, this is not obedience. This is also not good parenting. Train your children to obey immediately and they will grow up obeying, many times out of simple habit. But train them to disobey as much as possible and they certainly will — many times out of simple habit.

238. Childhood

Your children only get one childhood.

204. Train Children

Train your children in courtesy and manners by treating them courteously and with good manners.

203. Please

Please is a magic word not because it makes things happen, but because it goes with everything.

196. Teach Courage

If you teach your kids how cool and fun you think thunder and lightning are, they won’t fear it.

151. Responsible Recommendation

If you recommend someone who needs training, you must be the one willing to train them instead of pawning them off on someone else to be trained.

138. Many People

If a lot of people come into your hospital room at once, it’s either training time or a team to help explain bad news.

122. Bell

When you get a dog, get a bell for the door. He’ll let you know when he needs to go out.
