Words from a Father

Husband of One, Father of Four

10. Music

Music is the soul’s own speech. So whether you get lessons or teach yourself, learn to play an instrument. Or three.

9. Cost and Worth

Cost and worth are two very different things. Do not confuse them.

8. Have to, Want to

Many times we must do what we have to in order to be able to do what we want to in life. Be prepared and comfortable with both.

7. Emergency

Every paycheck, put money away where it cannot be squandered, but where it is available for emergencies. Define emergency strictly; fashion and convenience aren’t it.

6. Loving and Doing

There are some things you should love to do and some things you should just do. But if you can do what you love, you win.

5. Faithfulness

There is no substitute for faithfulness within a person. And faithfulness does not come to the young; it is only possible with time and opportunity to choose otherwise. Trust no one deeply whose faithfulness has not been tested.

4. Honesty

Do not lie. Honesty is still the best policy. Lying usually means you just have something to hide. And if you have something to hide, the truth is the only thing that can set you free.

3. Identity, Destiny, Responsibility

Knowing who you are will lead you to knowing what you are to do, but you must take action to bring it about. Said another way, your identity will lead to your destiny, but responsibility is your inescapable task.

2. Pray, Work

Pray like it’s all God; work like it’s all you.

1. Important

Do nothing as if it were unimportant; because, if anything is important, it is probable that everything is.
